Using drawing/workshopping to collectively imagine new logics and re-interpret old words/texts in a way that breaks down harmful preexisting structures. (this could be however literal/serious or surreal/playful) an example of this being done (kind of) (or a possibility for this to be done) that is personal to me is the task/struggle of building a new (or truthfully returning to a past) form of Judaism that is separate from the colonial/ethnonationalist/genocidal/Zionist kind of Judaism that is becoming ever more powerful. As left wing anti-zionist jews we are trying to imagine a strong diasporist community that is completely separate from nationalism and is about community, togetherness and unity with other minorities where we can connect to our ancestors and appreciate liturgy and centuries old tradition in a way that does not rely on the hardship/exclusion/death of others. The situation feels urgent and scary but we are working collaboratively and globally to imagine new futures. I have been running workshops around the idea of talmudic discussion and debate and reinterpretation – using old methods to break down top-down structures.
